At a time when many of our typed works are unfortunately largely “fontless” or otherwise lacking in visual style, perhaps an alternative would be some sort of hash tag a la the photo that accompanies your post? For example, “I can be really sarcastic typing in this reply box from my iPhone” doesn’t visually capture the sarcasm implied in that statement…

From what I’ve read, the consensus is for a left-leaning italic, à la sartalics. (See sartalics.com.)
